The Project

"Democracy and Games: Analog and Digital Game-Based-Learning Tools for Youth Work", Demogames for short, was an international project in which we co-developed a total of eight analog and digital democracy games, acting as the swiss cooperation partner. Demogames was co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the EU in the period 2019-2022.

Democracy Game Box

The project focused on the development of the Democracy Game Box. The D-Box consists of dice-, board-, and card-games that can be used in a variety of ways in extracurricular youth work as well as in school and education from the age of about 12. The games offer different approaches to democracy, both thematically and in the experience they provide. Conceptually, the games are based on the competence model provided by the Reference Framework for Competences for a Democratic Culture which was developed by the Council of Europe.

Manual for Trainers

The Demogames Facilitator's Manual provides background information on the understanding of democracy and education as well as concrete tips and examplary implementations of the individual games.

In addition to the handbook, there is a Massive Open Online Course with explanatory videos on all the games as well as the overarching themes of democracy, civic education, and game-based learning. A handbook for trainers, teachers and youth workers will accompany the game box, describing possible applications for the democracy games.
