Peer processes competences for democracy

About the projectLogo PeerProzesse

In Peer Processes - Democracy Competences, practitioners analyse the teaching of competences for democracy with the help of peers from neighbouring countries and with the Council of Europe's Reference Framework for Competences for a Democratic Culture (RFCDC).

The aim of the Peer Processes is to assess the current focus and strengths of concrete learning activities and give impulses for their further development. Like this, we contribute to the improvement of democracy education in Germany, Austria and Switzerland: which democracy competences are being promoted in practice and what works best? How do pracititioners assess their work themselves; and what can they learn from the outside perspective of comparable projects from neighbouring countries? How could competences for democracy be promoted even more holistically? The instruments of the Council of Europe and the exchange with comparable projects and experts provide impulses for further development.

In the period November 2021 - March 2022, five trinational peer groups analysed their activities based on the workbook of the Peer Prozesse project, learned from each other, received coaching and planned the improvement of their activities in order to promote democracy competences even better in the future. In April 2022, a closing event was held with participants and guests. The project was received very well.

The project was launched by Demokrative together with the Campus für Demokratie and the Demokratiezentrum Wien as part of the ANSTOSS DEMOKRATIE initiative. We see the first implementation in winter 2021/22 as a pilot process and will evaluate the type and timing of the continuation afterwards.
